Inside the ServiceMaster Restore® Franchise Discovery Process

Inside the ServiceMaster Restore® Franchise Discovery Process

Choosing the right franchise network is a big decision, and the first steps should allow both parties to determine whether it’s a good long-term fit. At ServiceMaster Restore®, our discovery process is designed to help prospective franchisees understand what ownership entails and answer questions before fully committing.

Rather than rushing through a series of conversations, each step is fundamental to the next. Candidates learn about the restoration business, our brand’s history, network support, and expectations that come with operating a ServiceMaster Restore® franchise. It’s also a chance for our development team to learn more about a prospect’s background and goals. Here’s how we break it down.

Step 1: Starting the conversation

Our team typically starts with an introduction once an inquiry is submitted. This conversation focuses on understanding a candidate’s experience, how much they know about restoration already, and providing a brief overview of the opportunity. Early conversations are more about answering any questions upfront while helping candidates decide if they’d like to move forward.

Step 2: Business and market review

After the initial discussion, candidates take a closer look at how ServiceMaster Restore® operates on a network and local level. Our team will often review services offered, day-to-day responsibilities, training, and available home office resources. During this stage, candidates also begin reviewing their local market and developing a business plan under the guidance of our franchise development team. They also have the opportunity to work with an internal real estate broker to understand location options better and evaluate what makes sense for their market and long-term business goals.

Step 3: Business and market review

This phase allows candidates to meet with members of our leadership team and gain additional perspectives. These conversations provide an opportunity to ask detailed questions and learn how different departments (i.e., marketing, sales, operations) serve franchisees. Candidates also participate in Discovery Day, where they take a deeper dive into the business. This includes discussions around our operations, revenue opportunities, equipment rental programs, and other aspects of the ServiceMaster Restore® model. During this phase, prospects also review the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) and are encouraged to take the time to understand and discuss it with any professional advisors before making any decisions.

Step 4: Preparing for ownership

By the end of the discovery process, candidates should feel confident in their understanding of the opportunity and the ServiceMaster Restore® network. Our team moves intentionally through every stage to ensure both parties have all of the information needed to make an informed decision, without pressure. When our team and the candidate decide to move forward, onboarding begins with clear expectations of the next steps. This helps create the foundation for a successful working relationship and ensures new franchisees feel secure in their transition to ownership. Interested in starting the process?
